Here we practice the ancient English art of change ringing on our ring of ten bells which range in weight from 300kg to 1 300kg.
Our ministry is performed by a small group of experienced bell ringers who ring the bells on Sunday mornings to call the faithful to worship.
The ringing of the bells also informs the wider Cape Town Community of the Cathedral and its Work.
The bells are also rung to signify the presence of the consecrated elements during the Eucharist, or to mark special occasions like weddings or funerals.
St George’s Cathedral only has 6 bell ringers which is 4 ringers less than we actually need. If anyone is interested in learning to ring and available to commit to ringing every Sunday morning, they would be most welcome to come and visit us on practise night or on Sunday morning when we ring for the morning service.
Ringing practise Tuesdays from 7pm to 8pm
Service ringing Sundays from 9am to 9.30am
FIRST THURSDAYS IN CAPE TOWN, 7 August 2025, St. George’s Cathedral open to the public from 5pm to 8pm.
