Our St George’s MEF Marimba Team plays the Lumko Marimba Mass for a service once a quarter and also performs for First Thursday events and other concerts around the city. They formed part of the 1177- strong marimba ensemble.
GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the Largest Marimba Ensemble in the World
Our St George’s MEF Marimba Team were part of the enormous group of 1177 marimba players who rehearsed for months in various corners of South Africa and Zimbabwe and then came together for one day on 2 August 2025 at GrandWest Grand Arena to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest marimba ensemble in the world. The team rehearses on Tuesday evenings in the Cathedral. There is no fee for lessons as the team is fully sponsored by the Marimba Education Foundation NPC. No previous musical experience is necessary and anyone aged 10-99 is welcome!
