The purpose of this ministry is:

In the first instance, to provide the Cathedral Office with liturgical material (Collects, Readings and Hymns) as laid down in the current lectionary for the Sunday 09h30 Eucharist. Once the weekly pew leaflet has been completed by the office staff, to read the finished product carefully and critically in preparation for the printing process. To correct misspellings, typographic errors and omissions where necessary and to suggest where improvements might be advantageous.

When called upon, to proof-read additional material (Worship Booklets, etc.) and to correct errors and misconceptions and to suggest where improvements can be an advantage. The volume of work entailed is generally constant and undemanding. As mentioned above, there are times, however, when the workload and concomitant pressure necessarily increase. This happens as we approach the high seasons of the liturgical year, such as Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent (including Holy Week and the Triduum), Eastertide and Pentecost.

Other special occasions and events, e.g. Season of Creation, Month of Compassion, etc. might also demand additional material, usually in the form of a booklet. These necessarily entail scanning and, where necessary, making corrections as outlined in the third point above. It is patently obvious that, despite my efforts, and being human, mistakes sometimes go unnoticed, resulting in less than perfect material in the final product. It is also true that there are often last-minute changes and insertions to the weekly pew leaflet which must, of necessity, not pass under my scrutiny before the document is printed.

This is understandable, due to the exigencies of running a Cathedral Office and making the leaflet as informative and up to date as possible. However, despite the (very occasional) pressure the work sometimes demands, I find the work fulfilling and I am grateful for the gifts God has given me to fulfil this task.
