A sacristan’s work brings you into close proximity with some of the most sacred things in the church. The duty of a sacristan is to prepare, provide and keep all things needed in the administration of communion in good order.  It provides an opportunity to learn the meaning and symbolism of many things in the Anglican tradition.

Duties include laying out the clergy vestments for Sunday and/or Special Services (Diocesan, Ordination, Weddings and Funerals), preparing the wine and wafers for services, ensuring that all vessels to be used for the Eucharist are clean, prepare the altars and altar linens according to the liturgical calendar and clean all candle stick holders and replace candles when necessary.

The washing and ironing of altar linens, albs, amices, towels as well as the special cleaning of our beautiful vestments is another way of serving God.

A good team of sacristans lightens the load and is a blessing in itself.  Training is provided.
